What is BushBasking

BushBasking is a new Environmental Social concept

BushBasking is not just a unique approach in dealing with living in general, it may also be applied to the personal, social and environmental aspects of our daily lives by understanding the pathways we take to happiness and the abilities to progress and  grow every day.

BushBasking is aimed at building mind muscle resilience

With the aid of the techniques experienced through our BushBasking journey,

building up ones strength and resilience becomes easier and longer lasting.

LETTING GO OF THINKING THROUGH THE ACTIVITY OF FEELING

Humans have a hardwired innate affinity for, and with, nature. Our need to connect with all other living things is at the core of our being on this journey. Thus it stands to reason that reconnecting with the aspects that have been lost will be healthy and nourishing for our selves and the communities we live within

While we welcome the effort to make our indoors more reflective of nature, in all possible forms, nothing can compare to the real effect of the ‘Bush’ ‘Beach’ ‘Backyard’ experiences. When one feels nature, as a joy, a release and as a ‘warm security blanket’ any initial fears and harshness are overcome through the experience itself.  One is healing AND strengthening the self. Coping mechanisms improve while health, both mental and physical get boosted.

BushBasking provides tools that may be applied when needed as an urgent healing activity when one feels the emotions are overwhelming and overloading the mind. These skills can also be applied as long-term maintenance tools for general physical and mental health and well-being.

We are so busy in our heads, with the demands of our daily lives taking over from our real essence of being. How can one be (more of oneself)?  Start by asking these two simple questions:

1) Am I happy?

2) What would make me happy?

Focus on self and community, family, friends, lovers, children, acquaintances.

Intentionally dismiss the financial aspects, that are dominating our lives.

The Goals and Purpose

NATURE BUILDS CONFIDENCE

The Human-Nature link strengthens and empowers us as individuals. Thinking of getting in nature may be daunting since many have lost our connectedness and touch with nature. For that reason it is important for participants to take personal care and (more importantly) accept responsibility for their ‘steps’. These journeys are owned by those journeying and your guide tags along, unlike the traditional guided bush walks. Experiencing the Bush through your eyes, utilising personal abilities through your own senses is an integral part of the BushBasking experiences. It is ultimately your journey. Journeying with the bush for younger people makes them more responsible adults, and adults will be reminded of the responsible times they led before. New levels of resilience will be achieved, making every participant stronger, more observant, leading to being more comfortable with taking responsibility which in turn enhances the decision making process in our daily lives.

WHY DO WE SLEEP SO WELL IN THE BUSH?

One is actually tired since accessing more of your bodies’ natural abilities releases many endorphins to stimulate and wear you out. It is a bit like accessing different parts and more of your phone. When we engage in the BushBasking activities we seek to open ourselves up to what there is around us. Opening up to all of our dormant senses wears us out. Once we start engaging the dormant senses, that have been dulled by our modern day lives, we get a feeling of satisfaction. That very feeling of being worried, afraid and excitement is what triggers the hormonal shift towards feeling satisfied with being. This essential component of our existence does not require anything else but us meeting the demands of feeling good. No external factors are needed. No shiny electronics, no large meals, no over the top sexual drives, nothing other than being with the self and the rustling of the leaves in the trees, and maybe the babbling of some water making its way elegantly through the perceived harshness, which really is nurturing. And a sunrise, or sunset, the smell of a campfire and the fresh smell of the bush after (or just before) the rain....
